Our Brief

The CEO & Founder of General Atlantic (Village Pet Care) asked us to find a high-calibre Senior Vice President of Operations.

Key to the brief was finding an operator with experience in successfully scaling a business and isn’t afraid to wear multiple hats in a start-up environment. The person also need to fit with the company’s ‘pet-centric’ culture and have an in-depth knowledge of the veterinary market.

Our Process

Following the discovery meeting with the CEO, we got to work and began the search process, starting with the input of all criteria into our AI database, Big AL, which uses data-driven insights to find qualified candidates for specialized roles – faster, and more precise. Within just 60 minutes, we had sourced a diverse list of compatible candidates most likely to succeed in this role, filtered by the target criteria.

Our Solution

We identified Miranda Zamarripa as the best fit: a licensed veterinary technician who has led successful specialty veterinary hospitals, with a background leading top-performing teams in highly matrixed organizations for over 20 years.

She was Group Vice President of Thrive Pet Healthcare at the time, and responsible for supporting 40% of the workforce as the company scaled from 150 to 437 locations with the heaviest focus in the 5 markets within her region. Miranda had worked her way up to this position from being a veterinary technician and knew every single aspect of a veterinary practice and how to scale effectively and efficiently – the perfect operator to scale this organisation whilst maintaining a very “pet-centric” culture!

Miranda’s experience in veterinary was a huge advantage because she understood that it is more than just a pet-care service. This increasing consumerization in veterinary — seeing people as customers, and pets as family members as well as patients — is part of this wider trend we’re seeing in the healthcare sector, so it was important that we found someone who understood that. Most importantly, she was the right fit culturally and, having worked for several private equity-backed companies before, she understood these market dynamics well.

The Result

As SVP of Operations, Miranda is driving growth by improving customer service, employee engagement, leadership, and workflow optimization.
